Meet Imelda Tandako ST
Plant Manager at our copra crushing facility in Amurang, Indonesia
She recently celebrated 15 years with Cargill—a milestone built on dedication, passion, and purpose. Imelda’s journey reflects our commitment to empowering individuals to grow, lead, and thrive in an inclusive environment where every voice matters.
What aspects of Cargill's culture make you feel welcome, valued, and heard?
Cargill’s culture of open and transparent communication creates a supportive environment where everyone is encouraged to share input, no matter their background or role. Leadership is approachable, and there are spaces to raise ideas and concerns that contribute to the company’s progress. I also value Cargill’s strong commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, which is evident across recruitment, development, and daily operations. It makes me feel like I belong and that my unique perspective matters. In addition, Cargill’s inclusive policies that support work-life balance, mental health, and overall well-being show a deep care for employees as individuals.
How do you help create a more inclusive work environment at Cargill?
I actively participate in and lead initiatives that raise awareness around DEI. This includes organizing events such as International Women’s Day and the Global Day of Inclusion, conducting unconscious bias training, and facilitating employee recognition programs. I am also a core team member of the CASC APAC Mulan Project, which aims to increase female representation in plant operations. Beyond that, I work to promote DEI in Indonesian universities through webinars and collaborate with the Talent Acquisition team to source female talent and create internal development opportunities. I have also served as a guest speaker at various Cargill locations in Indonesia to highlight opportunities for women in operations.
How has Cargill supported your journey in fostering an inclusive environment?
Cargill has provided a wide range of resources to support my DEI work, including trainings, workshops, and an inclusive facilities program. I have received strong backing from leadership through mentorship, coaching, and personal support, especially during difficult family moments. I have also had access to one-on-one sessions that help align career aspirations with company opportunities. Being invited to lead DEI projects and other initiatives has given me a meaningful platform to make an impact, and I am grateful for the trust and support I have received throughout this journey.
One quote that inspires me, especially in a VUCA (volatile, uncertain, complex, ambiguous) world, is by Helen Keller: 'Keep your face to the sunshine and you cannot see the shadow.' It reminds me to stay focused on the positive, even in challenging times.
