JOB SUMMARY

The Supervisor II, Financial Accounting & Controllership role is responsible for leading financial control, reporting, and analysis activities to ensure accurate and timely financial information.

In addition, this role acts as a key finance partner to the Agriculture & Trading business, working closely with traders and stakeholders to provide clear, actionable insights on P&L, cost control, and business performance.

The role requires balancing strong financial governance with business support, enabling effective decision-making in a dynamic trading environment.

Additional Role Context (Japan – Ag & Trading Finance Control)

    • This role supports the Agriculture & Trading business in Japan, working closely with traders and business leaders
    • The position is responsible not only for financial control but also for providing actionable financial insights to the business
    • The role requires hands-on involvement in daily P&L monitoring and interaction with fast-paced trading teams
    • Strong emphasis on business partnering, communication, and influence, beyond traditional accounting responsibilities

Key Accountabilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  1. ACCOUNTING POLICY & CONTROL COMPLIANCE: Oversees establishing and maintaining accounting policies and fiscal controls, and ensures financial processes are performed timely, accurately and in compliance with regulatory policies.
  2. ACCOUNTING SERVICES SUPPORT: Leads the delivery of accounting services, coordination of month end general ledger close, balance sheet reconciliations, and profit and loss analysis.
  3. FINANCIAL STATEMENTS & ANALYSIS: Oversees the delivery of effective and efficient financial reporting to support decision making, and reviews to ensure compliance with established requirements, policies and risk management, in a trading environment.
  4. PROCESS IMPROVEMENT: Leads cross functional teams to identify process improvement opportunities and implement best in class standards in accounting operations.
  5. TEAM MANAGEMENT: Manages team members to achieve the organization’s goals, by ensuring productivity, communicating performance expectations, creating goal alignment, giving and seeking feedback, providing coaching, measuring progress and holding people accountable, supporting employee development, recognizing achievement and lessons learned, and developing enabling conditions for talent to thrive in an inclusive team culture.
  6. BUSINESS PARTNERING & P&L MANAGEMENT:
  • Partner closely with traders and business stakeholders to monitor and analyze P&L movements
  • Provide value-added insights and recommendations on cost control, profitability, and business performance
  • Translate complex financial data into clear and simple insights for non-finance stakeholders
  • Support business decision-making through scenario analysis and financial advisory
  • Build strong relationships with stakeholders and effectively influence outcomes

Qualifications

MINIMUM & TYPICAL YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE

  • Minimum requirement of 4 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 5 years or more of relevant experience.

 LANGUAGE REQUIREMENTS

  • Japanese: Fluent (business level required for stakeholder communication)
  • English: Business level (written and verbal communication within global teams)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience in commodity trading / agriculture / trading house environment
  • Familiarity with SAP and financial reporting systems
  • Strong stakeholder management and communication skills
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, dynamic business environment
  • Proven ability to take ownership and operate independently
