Meet Patricia Zapata Familia

Supply Chain Learning & Development and Digital Support Lead

Patricia has been with Cargill for seven years, growing through five roles—from Supply Chain Management Project Manager to her current position. As a co-lead of the Cargill Women’s Network, she’s passionate about fostering inclusion, building community, and empowering others to thrive. Her journey reflects Cargill’s commitment to creating a workplace where diverse voices are heard, supported, and celebrated.

What aspects of Cargill's culture make you feel welcomed, valued, and heard?

I believe Cargill’s values truly set the culture apart. They create an environment where you feel psychologically safe to be yourself and bring your full self to work. You are encouraged to learn and try new things without fear of failure, because mistakes are seen as part of the learning process. I have also been fortunate to have managers who welcomed my way of working, supported my strengths, and guided me through challenges. This kind of support has had a powerful and positive mental and emotional impact. I have built deep professional and personal relationships here. Many of my colleagues have become lifelong friends, and that is something I treasure.

How do you help create a more inclusive work environment at Cargill?

Since joining Cargill, I have been part of the Cargill Women’s Network team and have supported the diversity, equity, and inclusion team in various efforts. These experiences have helped me grow both professionally and personally. I have built a broader network, developed new skills, and found a safe space to apply what I have learned. I have also had the opportunity to contribute toward creating a more inclusive workplace, workforce, and community.

How has Cargill supported your journey in fostering an inclusive environment?

Inclusion is embedded in Cargill’s culture and reflected in how we are choosing to show up for ourselves and others. From participating in Business Resource Groups to taking part in Unconscious Bias trainings, there are endless opportunities. We have access to resources that help us recognize and address bias, a diversity, equity, and inclusion team that offers guidance, inclusive policies that reduce systemic barriers, and leaders who lead by example. I have participated in mentoring programs that supported my growth, helped me become more self-aware, and allowed me to lead in a way that focuses on creating a more inclusive environment.

Working at Cargill has been transformative. Sometimes we spend more time with our coworkers than with our families. We are more than our email address. We want to laugh and connect, while delivering great results.
