Job Purpose and Impact

The Transportation Specialist will focus on freight sourcing and supporting the implementation of Transport & Logistics Cargill strategy, manage segment sourcing negotiations, deeply understand the market and business/revenue opportunities for Cargill businesses. May be involved in one or more transportation & logistics modes of truck and rail.

Key Accountabilities

  • Partner with trading, supply chain, and shipment execution teams to identify intermodal and other transportation opportunities.
  • Develop an understanding of transportation market dynamics, business models, and customer requirements across supported business units.
  • Manage vendor-related processes, including carrier selection, onboarding, contract negotiations, compliance, and relationship management.
  • Monitor and drive carrier performance improvements through on-time, in-full (OTIF) metrics, supplier scorecards, and incident management processes.
  • Ensure compliance with applicable controls, policies, procedures, and regulatory requirements.
  • Gather, analyze, and interpret transportation data and prepare reports and presentations to support business decision-making and performance tracking.
  • Support operational activities such as spot sourcing, capacity identification, and freight booking.
  • Monitor shipment execution, including loading status, tracking, and tracing activities to ensure timely delivery.
  • Maintain accurate and timely data entry in SAP, TMS, or other relevant systems to support KPI reporting and continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Ensure transportation documentation is properly maintained and archived.
  • Participate in the design, testing and implementation of digital solutions and continuous improvement projects.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience in a transportation or freight forwarding role within the agribusiness sector, specifically supporting bulk cereals and/or bulk commodities transportation.
  • Knowledge of transportation and logistics markets and carrier management practices.
  • Understanding of supply chain and transportation processes.
  • Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel.
  • Ability to communicate effectively in English, both written and verbal.
  • Experience managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Education in logistics, supply chain, business, transportation, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with Transportation Management Systems (TMS).
  • SAP experience.
