This position is in our Ag & Trading enterprise, where we connect producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe through origination, trading, processing, and distribution. We also offer a range of farmer services and risk management solutions. 

Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Crude Oil Analyst will conduct highly complex trading analytics efforts. In this role, you will provide analysis of markets and other economic considerations, development and deployment of highly complex models, tools and processes to influence the team to make trading and risk management decisions.

Key Accountabilities

Lead the crude oil and petroleum product analysis at the energy prop trading desk contributing to trading strategies and game plans.

Lead development, enhancement and execution of complex models and processes to forecast supply, demand and refinery margin drivers in context of prices, with focus on crude oil.

Regularly track refinery news and petroleum market developments to provide timely input to models.

Present weekly changes to fundamentals in a systematic and comprehensive way in addition to daily communication with traders.

Benchmark model outputs to external views systematically to identify disconnects in market expectations vs internal analysis.

Provide timely, accurate and actionable insights to trading team and other key stakeholders to drive trading and other business decisions.

Develop, coordinate and support initiatives for technology and data for trading data analytics in conjunction with head of analytics.

Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

Minimum 5 years of crude oil fundamental analysis experience preferably on a trading desk with focus on WTI and Brent markets

Experience tracking refinery economics and forecasting runs West of Suez. East of Suez understanding will be a plus.

Experience tracking crude supplies or ability to reason check vendor forecasts.

Petroleum products knowledge and/or cross barrel experience a distinguishing factor

Strong technical skills with experience handling large data sets efficiently and systematically

Programming languages particularly Python will be valuable

Compelling communication skills to convey analysis in simple and succinct way during weekly discussions and meetings, using power points or automated dashboards

Critical thinking and problem solving skills

Team player and can do attitude is necessary to succeed
