Senior Manager - Sustainability - Tropical Oils (Palm and Coconut)
Job Purpose and Impact
The Senior Manager, Sustainability (Agriculture & Trading) will provide input and drive implementation of sustainability strategy and programs focusing on Palm and Coconut. This role works closely with regional businesses, global sustainability team members, industry groups and downstream customers with regulatory, business, and customer requirements while enabling business growth.
The role implements complex technical sustainability activities and supports the integration of sustainable practices, technologies, and solutions for various businesses, supply chains, and functions. Using deep expertise across land, biodiversity, water, climate and people the role informs, guides and influences internal and external partners and supports customers with sustainability goals with minimal supervision. .
Key Accountabilities
Sustainability Leadership and Execution:
- Provide insights and input into sustainability strategies and incorporate emerging opportunities and expectations of our customers as well as corporate goals
- Drive implementation of sustainability strategies and programs aligned to corporate and business priorities.
- Incorporate emerging and current regulatory developments, customer expectations, and industry standards into program design and execution
- Serve as Lead Auditor for RSPO Supply Chain Certification (“SCCS”) for Palm
- Sustainable integration: Integrates sustainable practices, technologies, and solutions into various business functions and sustainability focus areas to embed environmental and social sustainability considerations throughout the organization's operations
- SUPPLIER EVALUATION: Evaluates and makes recommendations around suppliers and vendors based on sustainability criteria to assist in the organization's supply chain alignment with sustainability goals, mitigating environmental impact, assisting with building a resilient supply chain and promoting social responsibility.
Project and Program Delivery
- Drive the execution of project plans, working directly with suppliers, consultants and internal stakeholders to build engagement and trust with the business and develop training tools, workshops and learning sessions to assist with internal and external execution
- Coordinate cross‑functional inputs to ensure alignment and effective delivery.
- Ensure compliance of volumes to various regulation including but not limited to the EU Deforestation Regulation and the German Supply Chain Act (LkSG)
- IMPACT, DATA, REPORTING:Tracks complex metrics around sustainability strategy and business goals to ensure the value and progress is clear to internal and external partners, including but not limited to supply chain and product footprint and associated reduction targets.
- Leverages data and insights to analyze and identify sustainable practices, technologies, and strategies to propose opportunities, measure performance, inform decision making, assess initiative impact and optimize resource allocation.
Internal and External Collaboration:
- Internal collaboration: Builds partnerships and relationships across the organization and provides input to developing practices and policies, supporting the execution of sustainability initiatives, and using network of peers for standard methodology sharing.
- External collaboration: Identifies and works with external partners like trade associations, customers, non-governmental organizations, foundations, universities and government offices on key sustainability initiatives.
Trends, Standards and Best Practice
- Trends & best practices: Stays up-to-date with emerging sustainability trends, regulations, and standard methodologies to find opportunities, ensure compliance, engage partners and mitigate risks
- Track key metrics around sustainability strategy and business goals to ensure the value and progress is transparent to internal and external stakeholders
Solution Development:
- Develops drafts of sustainable solutions for the creation of innovative and environmentally responsible approaches, technologies, and practices that address sustainability challenges and promote a more sustainable future.
Qualifications
MINIMUM & TYPICAL YEARS OF WORK EXPERIENCE
- Minimum requirement of 4 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 5 years or more of relevant experience
Preferred Qualification
- 5+ years of experience in sustainability, responsible sourcing, or related fields
- Proficiency in Bahasa Indonesia and/or Bahasa Melayu
- Strong understanding of agricultural or commodity supply chains; palm oil experience is highly desirable.
- Experience with certification systems, auditing, or assurance processes (RSPO strongly preferred).
- Experience in the development of processes related to sustainability
- Proven ability to manage complex projects and influence diverse stakeholders
- Experience with project or program management
- Bachelor Degree in a related field or equivalent experience
