Job Purpose and Impact
- The Remote Pilot in Command assists in operating ground, flight and underwater drones and implementing data processing operations during the deployment of robotic drone systems. Under close supervision, this job implements basic project plans, including flight and systems planning, performing safety checks, troubleshooting and implementing the mission and safe launch and recovery of drones. This job is involved in making timely aeronautical and systems specific decisions during each operation, considering weather, hazards, drone limitations, flight path, telemetry data, automated navigation software, energy management and technical requirements of the remotely operated system, while acting as an effective crew member to support risk management and ensure adherence to regulatory compliance.
This is a hybrid position that can be based in São Paulo - SP or Uberlandia - MG.
Key Accountabilities
- DRONE OPERATIONS: Acts as a remote pilot in command and visual observer at dispersed locations, optimally operating remotely operated systems, adhering to all applicable regulations and internal company policy while completing project requirements.
- FLIGHT SAFETY: Performs standard preflight, inflight and post flight tasks and safety checks and troubleshoots equipment issues to ensure the safe and efficient operation of remotely operated systems and participates in safety management system program.
- SITE SOLUTIONING: Supports the effective selection and deployment of the proper equipment to fulfill site requirements and tasks, adapts to changes and makes adjustments to the deployment of technology to meet goals and requirements, supports the efficient utilization of all available resources and systems to collect data or perform tasks that meet customer needs.
- FLIGHT PLANNING: Conducts assessments and continuous monitoring of weather, navigation and airspace considerations and limitations, supports fulfilling customer and project requirements to ensure the safe and compliant execution of remotely piloted flights, submits authorization requests to authorities to access airspace and uses planning software and tools common in the aviation industry.
- FLIGHT COMPLIANCE & RECORDS: Performs standard compliance checks to ensure flight registration and required minimum equipment are installed and safe for flight, performs preflight checks, airspace reviews, mission planning, effective crew coordination, mission debriefs and logs flight times, maintenance write-ups, safety reports and tracks systems.
- HARDWARE & EQUIPMENT: Assists in the regular maintenance and inspections of remotely operated systems, including drones, flight controllers, payloads and associated software and hardware, to ensure optimal performance and reliability during flight operations, including basic maintenance and tool usage, firmware updates for drones and related equipment.
- DATA MANAGEMENT & POST PROCESSING: Assists in collecting data and footage from remotely operated systems, performs accurate and efficient processing, storage and analysis for project requirements and operational purposes using industry related processing software to assist with providing results to partners.
- PROJECT MANAGEMENT: Assists with coordinating project requirements, schedule planning, logistics, travel coordination and allocating the appropriate number of days for project requirements while balancing site schedules, weather and daylight requirements.
Qualifications
Required:
- Experience operating drones in complex environments (e.g., weather variability, industrial sites, or remote areas)
- Minimum of100 hours of commercial drone flight experience
- Knowledge of aviation regulations and airspace management in Brazil (SARPAS, ICA 100-40, RBAC-E 94)
- Familiarity with flight controllers and autopilot software
- Fluent/Native Portuguese
- Availablity for frequent travel (up to 75%) across South America.
Preferred:
- Drone Pilot License (e.g., ANAC/DECEA certification – Brazil)
- Remote Pilot Certification (e.g., RPIC equivalent)
- Familiarity with flight planning or GIS software
- Basic technical troubleshooting skills
- Intermediate/Advanced English
