Segment Lead Specialties (6‑Month Fixed Term Contract)

Job Purpose and Impact
The Segment Lead Specialties will perform moderately complex activities that ensure efficient transportation of materials and products from origin to destination. In this role, you will participate in the identification and selections of the most appropriate and cost effective transportation. Additionally, the role will support commercial and strategic transportation activities, including collaboration with carriers and internal partners on sourcing, rate management, and network improvements.
The role will also contribute to resolving operational and commercial issues with carriers and supporting transportation strategy execution across the business.
Key Accountabilities
- Apply a general comprehension of transportation and logistics practices and procedures to assist in the negotiation of freight prices and contract terms for customers.
- Support the full process of requesting and comparing price offers from transportation providers, including preparing requirements, helping make informed commercial decisions, participating in negotiations, and ensuring smooth implementation of agreed terms.
- Independently analyze current transportation operations practices to resolve process and cost improvement opportunities.
- Negotiate spot rates and support sourcing activities across all modes, including preparation, decision‑making, and implementation with carriers.
- Manage freight rate inputs, transportation business metrics, and carrier‑related issue resolution, including capacity constraints, payment topics, and structural network changes.
- Independently solve moderately complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience
- Minimum of two years of related work experience
- Fluent English
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Strong Microsoft Excel skills
- Strong analytical skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
