Job Purpose and Impact

The Senior Vice President, Sustainability provides enterprise leadership to advance the company’s sustainability direction. The role brings a strong customer‑ and market‑informed perspective to ensure sustainability commitments, standards, and actions are credible, defensible, and aligned with how customers assess trust, risk, and long‑term value. Working across businesses, functions, and regions, this leader integrates sustainability expectations into operations, sourcing, products, and decision‑making, strengthening the company’s ability to meet evolving requirements while supporting responsible growth.

Enterprise Sustainability Leadership (Customer Informed Focus)

  • Provide senior leadership for the company’s sustainability strategy, ensuring it reflects evolving customer expectations, global market signals, and emerging sustainability‑related regulatory trends.
  • Enable long‑term sustainability priorities and partner with enterprise leaders to shape enterprise direction, ensuring initiatives support trust, transparency, and long‑term value creation.
  • Partner with the business in identifying new sustainability‑driven value opportunities, including advanced low‑carbon pathways and future‑focused capabilities.

Customer & Market Integration

  • Translate customer sustainability priorities into scalable enterprise standards that inform products, sourcing, operations, and long‑term planning.
  • Align sustainability commitments and statements to customer‑driven needs, ensuring defensibility, clarity, and consistency across businesses and regions.
  • Maintain strong external awareness of sustainability expectations to help the organization anticipate and respond to market and customer shifts.

Sustainability Compliance & Risk Enablement

  • Oversee sustainability‑related compliance expectations across businesses, ensuring protocols strengthen customer trust and support responsible growth.
  • Establish alignment between sustainability commitments and considerations, compliance requirements, and enterprise risk frameworks.
  • Partner with legal, policy, and risk teams to help ensure credibility and defensibility of sustainability claims, standards, and practices across the company.

Carbon & Environmental Data, Analytics & Transparency

  • Lead the development of AI-enabled data and analytics  foundations to power credible sustainability reporting,  performance tracking, and customer-required metrics.
  • Ensure sustainability data is AI-ready – high quality, consistent, and structured to support advanced modeling, automation, and meet customer, market, and regulatory expectations.
  • Build and scale AI-driven transparency frameworks that enable dynamic measurement, validation and delivery of environmental attributes and metrics across the value chain.

Business Integration & Enterprise Execution

  • Partner with supply chain, operations, procurement, and commercial teams to embed sustainability standards and expectations into business processes and decision‑making.
  • Support businesses in operationalizing sustainability requirements in a way that is feasible, scalable, and aligned with enterprise priorities.
  • Lead cross‑enterprise initiatives designed to increase consistency, reduce operational risk, and strengthen sustainability integration across regions and product lines.

External Engagement & Sustainability Representation

  • Engage with priority customers, partners, and value‑chain stakeholders to strengthen trust and demonstrate the company’s sustainability positioning.
  • Participate in relevant external forums or industry groups to represent the company’s sustainability direction and learn from broader market developments.
  • Gather insights from external stakeholders and translate them into enterprise‑relevant sustainability strategies and expectations.

Leadership, Talent Development & Organizational Capability

  • Lead and develop high‑performing sustainability teams, fostering deep expertise in environmental data, standards, operational integration, and customer‑driven sustainability work.
  • Build organizational capability in sustainability through clear priorities, structured operating rhythms, and strong alignment with enterprise governance.
  • Create an environment of accountability and excellence, enabling teams to lead effectively across a complex, matrixed global organization.

Additional Leadership Expectation

A critical dimension of this role is serving as a steward of the company’s legacy and reputation. As a privately held, family-owned enterprise, the SVP of Sustainability is expected to ensure that sustainability strategies and initiatives reflect and reinforce the family’s values, long-term purpose, and commitment to responsible business practices. This includes thoughtfully aligning environmental and social priorities with the enduring principles of the ownership, while safeguarding and strengthening the family name through credible, transparent, and impactful sustainability leadership.

Key Accountabilities

  • Lead the development of new businesses models around sustainability. Approach sustainability trends as an opportunity for the businesses by looking in adjacencies and white spaces to develop knowledge and make choices of where to invest and grow.
  • Work with the business groups and farmer facing teams to originate carbon from farmers. Interact with the external customers to market carbon and create an end-to-end carbon system from farmer to customer (internally and externally).
  • Develop and create a carbon clearing house' for businesses, and potentially the organization, with a strong focus to create pricing expertise, know-how and trading capabilities globally. Develop cutting edge carbon analytical capability in cooperation with trading data and analytics team.
  • Lead multiple initiatives and teams operating across groups, regions and functions, including venture board, the sustainability hub, and the external innovation economy.
  • Identify cross-enterprise opportunities between enterprises to promote an integrated operating company model.
  • Lead and drive a cohesive approach for all sustainability related existing businesses in biodiesel both from first generation and waste, carbon trading and emerging renewable diesel opportunities. Support business groups monetize various sustainable supply chains tailored to meet customers demand.
  • Responsible for sustainability compliance across businesses. Lead compliance teams to become an enabler of new business models and improve our brand and reputation as a leader in sustainability.
  • Provide long-term (four or more years) strategic leadership, development and talent management for multiple teams of directors, senior managers and managers. You will build a cohesive leadership team that drives the goals and success of the organization, inspiring others by articulating the positive impact the organization can make. You will create an environment in which people know where they stand, including when they are performing poorly.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum requirement of 10 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 15 years or more of relevant experience.

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Master's degree or other post-secondary degree.
  • Direct commercial experience.
  • Experience leading a sustainability function at a global, matrixed organization.
  • Previous experience as a head of sustainability.
  • Proven track record of driving outcomes through strategy execution.

The expected salary for this position is $400,000 - $500,000. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
