Job Purpose and Impact

The Production Shift Manager provides operational leadership and oversight for the production facility in Wolverhampton, maintaining a presence across multiple areas of the factory within a four-shift system. The role is responsible for ensuring that operations align with defined standards for safety, quality, operational performance, and cost control.

Key Accountabilities

  • Monitor production output, including quantity and quality, to ensure compliance with customer requirements and food safety standards.
  • Collaborate with production team leaders and the Assistant Shift Manager to deliver production plans in line with customer specifications and agreed timelines.
  • Develop and implement operational plans, and oversee routine production activities across all processes during the shift, using continuous improvement methodologies.
  • Apply continuous improvement approaches, such as Root Cause Analysis, to analyze issues and support effective solutions.
  • Lead, coach, and support direct reports, including embedding the company’s core values and guiding principles during shift operations.
  • Manage people-related activities for direct reports, including recruitment input, performance management, and disciplinary processes, in line with company policies. The role may occasionally involve performing operational tasks alongside team members to support shift requirements.
  • Manage labor resources during the shift to ensure staffing levels remain within approved budget parameters.
  • Carry out additional responsibilities as required to support operational objectives.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Degree or equivalent qualification in a relevant discipline (e.g. food manufacturing, business management, general management), or equivalent practical experience within a production or manufacturing environment (e.g. food manufacturing, FMCG, chemicals, pharmaceuticals)
  • Strong leadership and communication skills, with the ability to engage and communicate effectively across all levels of the organization
  • Demonstrated experience leading and developing teams within a manufacturing environment

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications
  • Formal training or certification in Continuous Improvement methodologies (e.g. Lean, Six Sigma)
  • Food Safety certification (HACCP Level 3 preferred)
