Senior Director, Sustainability - Ag & Trading South America

This position is in our Food Enterprise where we are committed to serving food manufacturers, food service customers, and retailers with a complete range of innovative ingredients and branded products. Our portfolio includes poultry, beef, egg, alternative protein, salt, oils, starches, sweeteners, cocoa and chocolate.
Cargill has announced plans to close its Dayton, Ohio facility, which is expected to remain operational at least through November 2027 to support business and customer needs.
Any separation benefits for union hourly employees, if applicable, would be provided in accordance with a negotiated agreement between the company and the union.
Job Purpose and Impact
- The Senior Director, Sustainability for Ag & Trading LATAMowns the strategy for designing, implementing, and maintaining critical technical sustainability activities to support the integration of sustainable practices, technologies, and solutions for various businesses, supply chains, and functions. This job leads the team that aims to build a balance between economic growth, environmental stewardship, and social well being among business functions and sustainability focus areas, using expert knowledge and experience to influence and partner with internal and external collaborators.
Key Accountabilities
- SUSTAINABLE INTEGRATION: Provides overall operational direction and owns the integration of sustainable practices, technologies, and solutions into various business functions and sustainability focus areas to ensure environmental and social sustainability considerations are embedded throughout the organization's operations.
- STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT: Partners to develop technical sustainability strategies that reduce environmental impact, optimize resource efficiency, drive innovation, ensure compliance, and improve the organization's overall sustainability performance.
- EXTERNAL COLLABORATION: Builds and maintains strong business and customer partnerships to ultimately influence strategic and systemic changes, bridge technical solution gaps as well as governance around process design and improvements.
- SUPPLIER EVALUATION: Owns and guides the evaluation and selection of suppliers and vendors based on sustainability criteria to ensure alignment with the organization's supply chain sustainability goals, mitigating environmental impact, building a resilient supply chain and driving social responsibility.
- SOLUTION DEVELOPMENT: Owns and guides the development and coordination of sustainable solutions, ensuring effectiveness of innovative and environmentally responsible approaches, technologies, and practices that align with the organization's goals, meets partner expectations, and contributes to a more sustainable future.
- TRENDS & BEST PRACTICES: Directs the team to stay up-to-date with emerging sustainability trends, regulations, and standard methodologies to lead opportunity identification, compliance assurance, partner engagement, and risk mitigation.
- POLICY DEVELOPMENT: Develops sustainability policies and guidelines that govern the organization's operations to ensure compliance with relevant regulations, standards and methodologies, and ensures effective process of frameworks for measuring and reporting sustainability performance.
- VENDOR EVALUATION & SELECTION: Owns and validates the evaluation of vendors to ensure alignment with sustainable practices and established criteria, while approving proposals that align with factors such as cost, technical capabilities, sustainability practices, and overall fit with the organization's requirements.
- TEAM MANAGEMENT: Manages team members to achieve the organization's goals, by ensuring productivity, communicating performance expectations, creating goal alignment, giving and seeking feedback, providing coaching, measuring progress and holding people accountable, supporting employee development, recognizing achievement and lessons learned, and developing enabling conditions for talent to thrive in an inclusive team culture.
Qualifications
- Minimum requirement of 8 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 12 years or more of relevant experience.
