Job Purpose and Impact

The Technical and Process Safety Engineer will apply technical knowledge of engineering and process safety to deploy business and corporate standards to manage risk in hazardous processes. In this role, you will help build technical and process safety capabilities within the facility, and work across multiple medium and high-risk processes at a single location, to provide the technical knowledge and assistance to ensure consistent implementation of technical and process safety standards. You will partner with our facility engineering, maintenance, and safety team to participate in developing strategies to deploy, implement and sustain corporate technical and process safety risk management standards and ensure prevention of serious safety events.

Key Accountabilities

  • Own, manage, and directly oversee the successful implementation and sustainment of the following site programs: 
    • Ammonia refrigeration process safety program including process hazard analysis, audit, management of change, incident investigation, process safety information, etc.  
    • Combustible dust program including dust hazard analysis (DHA), safety device management, management systems, risk reduction projects, etc. 
    • Cryogenic hazard program including cryogenic hazard reviews, cryogenic safeties, and cryogenic technology implementation. 
    • Rendering safety management program of the facility including rendering hazard analyses, technical documentation, process safety information, training, etc. 
  • Provide governance and compliance oversight for the facility’s boiler and burner safety programs 
  • Provide technical, regulatory and strategic consultation, support and training on safety risk management requirements and tools to help sites build a strong technical and process safety risk management culture at the facility 
  • Collaborate with domain and technology teams to deploy technologies that can help achieve objectives and best practices in technical and process safety. 
  • Collaborate with regional process safety leadership, evaluating and assessing the performance of the corporate process safety standards. 
  • Track site technical and process safety performance through internal auditing and measuring. 
  • Independently handle complex issues with minimal supervision, while escalating only the most complex issues to appropriate staff. 

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in engineering or related field; or equivalent experience
  • Minimum of four years of related work experience in safety, maintenance, or engineering 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in chemical or mechanical Engineering
  • Certified process safety professional through an external professional organization.  
  • Refrigerating Engineers & Technicians Association (RETA) Certified Assistant Refrigeration Operator (CARO) and/or Certified Industrial Refrigeration Operator (CIRO) certification. 
  • Previous experience communicating with and building rapport with a diverse set of stakeholders including front line workers, supervisors, site managers, and business managers. 
  • Previous success managing process safety programs across multiple unit operations or multiple facilities.

The expected salary for this position is $95,000-140,000. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
