Job Purpose and Impact

The Financial Accountant partners to monitor and implement new accounting standards, maintain the organization's global accounting policies, and educates finance and business personnel on the organization's accounting policies. With limited supervision, this job provides general advice on the application of the global accounting policies to all related transactions, and implements processes, controls and systems in line with accounting policies.

Key Accountabilities

  • POLICY MAINTENANCE & IMPROVEMENT: Implements and maintains global accounting policies, and partners to design new processes and controls to in compliance with new standards.
  • TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING EDUCATION: Partners to conduct training for finance and business teams to maintain compliance with new standards, and provides information, support and advice to businesses, functions and finance teams on technical accounting issues.
  • TECHNICAL ACCOUNTING RESEARCH & ANALYSIS: Conducts moderately complex research and analysis on emerging accounting issues, new accounting standards and regulatory changes to assess their impact on the organization.
  • ACCOUNTING PROJECTS: Implements accounting projects including impairment analyses, acquisitions, divestitures, joint venture formation and accounting.
  • ACCOUNTING STANDARDS: Partners to monitor and implement new accounting standards, including evaluating, researching and communicating the financial statement impact to key finance and business leaders and the external auditor.
  • FINANCIAL STATEMENT PREPARATION: Prepares moderately complex quarterly and annual financial statements, including footnotes and supporting documentation for audit support.
  • ISSUE IDENTIFICATION: Partners to discuss and review significant accounting issues with external auditors and informs the audit committee.

Qualifications

  • Minimum requirement of 2 years of relevant work experience. Typically reflects 3 years or more of relevant experience.

Preferred qualification:

  • Additional language skill – French is an advantage
  • Good proficiency in Excel
  • Strong team player with the ability to handle tasks under pressure and deliver results in a timely manner while maintaining the required quality
  • Demonstrates strong analytical skills and attention to detail
