This position is in our Ag & Trading enterprise, where we connect producers and users of grains and oilseeds around the globe through origination, trading, processing, and distribution. We also offer a range of farmer services and risk management solutions.
Job Purpose and Impact
The Trading Strategist will develop and implement quantitative trading and portfolio strategies across core agricultural commodities, combining fundamental market intelligence, advanced analytics and commercial judgment. As a core member of the Central Prop Book trading desk, you will translate quantitative research into futures and options trading strategies, contribute to portfolio construction and risk allocation frameworks, and partner closely with quantitative researchers, traders and risk managers to deliver measurable improvements in risk-adjusted returns.
Key Accountabilities
- Own the development, implementation and performance of quantitative trading strategies across core agricultural commodity futures and options, integrating quantitative research, fundamental market intelligence and commercial judgment.
- Suggest ideas and design for portfolio construction, position sizing and risk allocation frameworks that optimize risk-adjusted returns within the desk's risk mandate.
- Model agricultural market dynamics, including futures curve structure, seasonality, storage and carry, basis and inter-commodity relationships, and incorporate fundamental data such as supply and demand balances, weather and crop conditions into strategy design.
- Evaluate and monitor strategies through rigorous backtesting, performance attribution and scenario analysis, and implement improvements based on results.
- Partner with quantitative researchers to prioritize research, validate new models and accelerate deployment of analytical capabilities into production trading.
- Collaborate with traders, risk managers and the global fundamental research team to integrate supply and demand insights, assess market exposures, identify portfolio risks and develop effective mitigation strategies.
- Build decision-support tools and analytics that improve commercial decision making, and track emerging quantitative techniques to sustain competitive advantage.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a quantitative, scientific or related field or equivalent experience.
- Minimum of six years of experience in quantitative research, trading, portfolio management or risk management in commodity or financial markets.
- Strong knowledge of futures and options markets, including options pricing, volatility and risk sensitivities.
- Proficiency in Python and modern quantitative research and data analysis tools.
Preferred Qualifications
- Master's degree or PhD in a quantitative, scientific or related field.
- Demonstrated track record developing and deploying quantitative trading strategies in agricultural or broader commodity markets.
- Experience applying time-series econometrics, machine learning and portfolio optimization to trading problems.
- Experience working with fundamental agricultural data, including supply and demand, weather, crop and trade-flow data.
