Job Purpose and Impact
Job location: Manchester, UK (M17 1PA)
Position is a permanent, full time Monday-Friday days position based 5 days per week at the Manchester site
Cargill’s Manchester plant is a production facility which is key to the UK food, spirit, pharmaceutical, chemical and cosmetics industries. The plant and offices located in Manchester are part of the Cargill starches and sweeteners business which produces sweeteners, wheat protein and alcohol for customers in the confectionery, brewing, drink, dairy, farming and bakery sectors.
The Food Safety & Quality Improvement Manager will have responsibility for aspects of the Food Safety & Quality Management Systems as well as leading the continuous improvement actions within the food safety and quality function while also providing appropriate support to other departments. In this role, you will be involved in regular QA activities e.g. HACCP, internal and external audits and also you will be the focal point for the continuous improvement activities of the team.
Key Accountabilities
• Using data and information from various sources identify and execute improvements related to quality and food safety
• Conduct verification and maintenance of the food safety and quality systems, hazard analysis and sanitation processes, prerequisite programs, manufacturing processes, plant environment and finished product
• Collaborates with operations on the initiation of corrective action and preventative measures when necessary
• Ensure adherence to corporate, regulatory, customer and facility food safety and quality requirements and completion of corrections and corrective actions
• Act as food safety team leader, coordinate and lead the food safety team and overseeing the food safety management system and management review
• Investigate and follow up on food safety incidents that occur in the plant to ensure they are reported and that corrective action and permanent corrections are taken
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in a related Scientific subject (Microbiology, Food Science, Food Engineering) or in place of a degree demonstrable experience in a Quality/ Technical/ CI role in the Food Industry
- Experience with the Food Safety certification schemes such as FSSC22000 or BRC
- Experience working with SAP or a similar ERP system
- Knowledge of food/feed safety industry practices and standards.
- Experience of continuous improvement tools and techniques (5S, Lean Six Sigma)
