Job Purpose and Impact

The Junior Commodities Analyst, will retrieve, analyze and summarize data to develop business intelligence, optimize effectiveness and predict business outcomes. 

In this role, you will join an existing team that focuses on the forecasting of supply and demand for Palm Oil, Palm Kernel Oil and Coconut Oil globally. These insights are then used for managing operations in Cargill's plants as well as for risk management purposes in the commodities market. This role has extensive communication and collaboration with the trading teams in Cargill.

Key Accountabilities

  • Regular crop tour in Palm Plantation to generate views on Palm supply.
  • Conduct supply and demand analysis on the palm oil market focusing on production patterns of palm oil in Malaysia and monitoring domestic production to forecast demand patterns.
  • Working closely with commercial teams and global analytics team to assess practices that could be applied in the palm oil space and generate supply and demand insights. 
  • Analyzing the supply and demand picture to generate trading ideas for the commercial team.
  • Regular presentation to the trading team to optimize trading strategies.
  • Help monitor market conditions, trends and competitors to project demand and supply.
  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
  • Other minimum qualifications may apply

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in a quantitative field i.e. Mathematics, Economics, Engineering etc or equivalent experience
  • 1 - 2 years of working experience in relevant field, fresh graduates with the relevant degree are encouraged to apply.
  • Strong analytical skills, have an inquisitive mind and be a self starter
  • Knowledge of programming language such as python and statistical modeling would be advantageous.
  • Willing to travel within Malaysia
  • Willing to be based at Kuala Lumpur.
