This position is in Cargill’s agricultural supply chain business. We sit at the heart of the supply chain, partnering with farmers and customers to source, make and deliver essential products.


Job Purpose and Impact

The Vessel Boarding Agent will coordinate ocean vessel port calls for our customers, primarily on the lower Mississippi River. In this role, you will help prepare the vessel for arrival, coordinate movement within the port, communicate with regulatory agencies (ie. US Coast Guard, US Customs and Border Protection, US Department of Agriculture, etc.) as well as our internal and external stakeholders.

Key Accountabilities

  • Evaluate, select, and foster continuous relationships with external transport providers.
  • Use limited knowledge of the transportation and logistics industry to make recommendations to establish good customer relations.
  • Analyze and project transportation costs and coordinate customs clearances and permits.
  • Provide distribution, transportation, and logistical solutions on inbound or outbound movement of raw material and finished product from origin to destination.
  • Perform data entry updates in spreadsheets and databases based on sales orders and contracts and provide data to more senior team members for further analysis.
  • Handle basic issues and problems under direct supervision, while escalating more complex issues to appropriate staff.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Willingness and availability to work on rotating shifts and weekends. 


Preferred Qualifications

  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.). 
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills. 
  • Experience in the Maritime Industry.
  • Previous vessel agency experience.
