IFT Book Manager
Job Purpose and Impact
Cargill Metals works with customers in the global trading, distributing and processing of raw materials and steel products; which includes iron ore, billets, hot rolled, cold rolled, wire-rods, and rebar. CSMC’s global presence enables it to serve miners, mills, processors and end users.
The International Ferrous Trading (IFT) team focuses on global origination and sales of Steel Products. Together with IFT Trading Manager, Book Manager will play a pivotal role in driving team’s earnings and is accountable for the risk management practices; anticipatory positioning; drive development of analytics/insights framework and collaborating across other trading related practices in the relevant book. The role operates in a complex physical proprietary trading environment that consciously pushes for change without losing sight of the overall business PnL.
Key Accountabilities
- Position management of a sizeable trading book, in a complex trading and position management environment.
- Analytics around risks in the book
- Continuous interaction between physical traders; other book managers; and trading leads
- Continuous improvement on position management and how risk is deployed in the business.
- Act as the subject matter expert for international steel proprietary trading (mainly physical proprietary).
- Input provider to the global supply and demand analytics.
- Input provider to the global positioning of the available risk units.
- Continuous connectivity to the broader system, connecting trading (insights) with commercial opportunities to the customer group.
- The above is multi-country and with limited oversight of the IFT lead.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
Understanding of, and experience using data visualization and data analytics tools and applications
Minimum of six years of related work experience

Preferred Qualifications
Proven track record (>5years) of physical commodity merchandising or trading experience. In case not in the ferrous industry, successful experience in a Cargill-like commodity business framework will be essential.
Strong math and quantitative skills
Strong analytic mindset and sound understanding of NFAs
Proven track record of high performance in past and current roles
Demonstrated high execution capacity
Demonstrated written and verbal communication and documentation skills
Proven strategic thinking, decision making and problem solving skills
Strong behaviors in alignment with the Cargill Leadership Model
Able to operate in a complex and fast changing trading environment
Experience in the field of international steel markets
Experience working through Cargill risk management policies and controls (or equivalent external systems)
Mandarin speaking is not essential, but a bonus.
