Job Purpose and Impact
The Cargill Foundation Specialist implements the Cargill Foundation’s strategy to advance education and nutrition outcomes for low-income youth. With limited supervision, this job analyzes, designs, builds and evaluates moderately complex partnerships with nonprofits and facilitates relationships with internal and external partners to advance the Foundation’s mission of supporting youth for success in school, work and life.
Key Accountabilities
- STRATEGY DEVELOPMENT: Implements The Cargill Foundation strategy to advance and drive outcomes in education, nutrition and sector support (arts and culture) for low-income youth in partnership with nonprofit organizations.
- PROPOSAL DEVELOPMENT: Partners with nonprofits to explore investment opportunities or initiatives that align with the Foundation’s focus areas including analyzing and evaluating specific goals, target areas and approaches for making a positive impact.
- PORTFOLIO MANAGEMENT: Performs an assessment of the Foundation’s partnership portfolio to ensure resources are allocated efficiently and effectively to achieve desired outcomes.
- PROJECT AND EVENT MANAGEMENT: Implements or facilitates moderately complex strategic philanthropy and partnership initiatives or events aligned with the foundation’s goals and addressing specific education and nutrition challenges in a targeted region or impact area.
- IMPACT REPORTING: Prepares impact evaluation to assess and communicate the effectiveness of investments, initiatives and partnerships. , and inform future strategic grantmaking.
- FINANCIAL MANAGEMENT: Follows the grants management governance and processes to ensure strong financial management for all philanthropy and partnership investments by supporting the management of budgets and tracking expenses, ensuring that funds are used efficiently and effectively to achieve the desired impact.
- GRANT MAKING & DUE DILIGENCE: Implements detailed due diligence on potential grantees, approving assessments on partner and project credibility, financial stability, governance practices, and alignment with the organization's values and objectives to ensure grant making aligns with applicable laws, regulations, industry standards and the Cargill Foundation’s bylaws, policy and values.
- INTERNAL STAKEHOLDER ENGAGEMENT: Supports collaboration between The Cargill Foundation grantees and Cargill employees, to support strategic nonprofit partnerships that leverage employee expertise, resources and networks, while improving education and nutrition outcomes for low-income youth.
- EXTERNAL STAKEHOLDER MANAGEMENT: Partners to implement the external partner strategy and maintains relationships with external partners, including nonprofit organizations, foundations and key stakeholders. Serves as external spokesperson by representing Cargill and the Cargill Foundation in meetings, multi partner forums, and other community engagements to drive significant and sustainable impact.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum of two years of related work experience
- Experience working or volunteering with nonprofit organizations, foundations or engaging in corporate responsibility.
- Must have access to reliable transportation and be willing to travel locally within the Twin Cities region up to 25% as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in philanthropy, executing strategic grantmaking strategies, partnership development, grant evaluation and driving outcomes.
- Experience monitoring financial budgets and/or endowment investments.
- Strategic communication, presentation and collaboration skills to enhance relationships with internal and external partners and an ability to influence others regarding practices and procedures
- Ethical leader who possesses integrity and compliance in all levels of decision-making, ensuring grantmaking and financial management aligns with applicable laws, regulations, policies and values.

Position Information
The expected salary for this position is $70,000 – $85,000. Compensation varies depending on a wide array of factors including but not limited to the specific location, certifications, education, and level of experience. The disclosed range estimate may be adjusted for any applicable geographic differential associated with the location at which the position may be filled. This position is eligible for a discretionary incentive award. The incentive award amount is dependent upon company performance and your personal performance.
