Job Purpose and Impact
Manage pricing, trading and merchandising to achieve PNL and Business Plan objectives for the respective commodity trading desk. Provide leadership to achieve desired alignment and results across sales, origination, execution and asset utilisation.
Key Accountabilities
- Develop and manage track paper markets and accumulation and merchandising strategies for the wheat desk encompassing directional and intermarket spread positions to generate profit
- Day-to-day position and PNL reconciliation and management via strong collaboration with the CFR team.
- Manage and provide leadership on pricing and alignment of origination, sales and execution strategies
- Conduct rigorous fundamental analysis to generate insights that contribute to strategy formulation, pricing gameplans and exploit arbitrage opportunities (e.g., SND ’s, farmer selling, domestic consumer order flow, export order flow, quality/location/freight arbs etc.)
- Coordinate with sales team to execute the export and domestic programs through Cargill’s network in Australia and Globally
- Engage with brokers, engage with farmers and meet with customers as necessary.
- Understand the domestic and global SND for the respective book
- Play a comprehensive role in team leadership to achieve the profitable growth plans of the Australia business unit.
- Demonstrate and promote Cargill behaviours & set appropriate examples of professionalism.
- Demonstrate commitment to teamwork both within and external to Cargill.

Qualifications
Required
- Education, Experience, Skills
- University Degree or equivalent - Agriculture, Economics, Business, Sales and Marketing
- Minimum of 7 years in a commodity trading role.
- Understanding and experience in trading and risk management, merchandising, cash markets and SND’s
- Knowledge and experience with logistics and supply chain management.
- Proven successful track record in managing positions and supply chains
- Proven successful record of resolving conflict and difficult commercial negotiations.
- PC skills with Microsoft applications (Word, Excel, Internet Explorer, Outlook).
- Aptitude to learn quickly and apply learnings successfully.
- Ability & willingness to take considered risk.
Preferred
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, both with individuals and in group forums, in personal or via phone calls, conference calls, in meetings and one on one
- Sound technical knowledge of Australian wheat agronomics and growing regions.
- Trading and risk management skillset, specifically knowledge of cash market, futures markets, hedging tools and FX exposure.
- Successful record of contract negotiation and customer relations.
