Job Purpose and Impact
The Advisor, Strategic Account Manager will be tasked to establish relationships, build sales strategies to achieve customer and Cargill goals and ultimately drive new business with customers in the Chain / regional Chain Foodservice space where Cargill has an opportunity to expand our current sales. This position will be organized under the Food Group Sales organization, specifically under the Foodservice umbrella. This role will be responsible for driving sales growth of Foodservice Products in the following categories (not limited to): Edible oils, Primary Beef, Value Added Protein, CCCNA, Sweeteners, Salt, Truvia and functional systems. To thrive in this role, it is essential to demonstrate strong communication and leadership presence, with the ability to engage in candid conversations both internally and externally to drive results. Success also requires strategic thinking to shape vision from abstract inputs and the ability to work independently in the field without direct supervision.
Key Accountabilities
- Identify and target new business opportunities with assigned customer base
- Establish trust, mutually beneficial and long-term partnership with customers.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with assigned customer base
- Develop and execute strategic sales plans to achieve sales targets
- Use insights from the external market to understand competitive landscape to help define and deliver specific value to customers and Cargill
- Conduct customer and market research to identify potential sales opportunities while understanding customer needs
- Use tailored storytelling that resonates with and inspires customers, creating excitement around the role in achieving their strategic objectives.
- Manage the transition of accounts from New Business Development to National Chain Sellers once growth is achieved, while continuously prospecting and onboarding new customers to maintain a strong pipeline.
- Provide expert thought leadership in your field and work with limited direction, using additional research and interpretation to identify issues or problems. You may provide direction to supporting team members and be a strategic contributor.
- Other duties as assigned including but not limited to supporting strategic goals in the areas of innovation, sustainability and creating value outside of product.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications
- Minimum 6 years of experience in Food Service, Food Ingredients or Retail.
- Demonstrated strong business acumen with a strong track record of meeting sales goals
- Willing and able to travel minimum 40-50% of the time
Preferred Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
- Proven experience leading strategic initiatives that required translating abstract concepts into actionable plans, including examples of working independently in field-based or unsupervised environments.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively across all levels of an organization, including facilitating candid conversations with internal stakeholders and external clients to influence outcomes and drive results.
- Deep understanding of commodity markets, contracting and Risk Management
- Highly self-motivated and ability to motivate others
