Each year we move around 50 million tons of physical iron ore and 6 million tons of physical steel globally.

The Trading Assistant supports trading team on swaps execution for all offshore derivatives cleared SGX, CME, International DCE and LME. Responsible for accuracy of recaps, trades and reconciliation of breaks, the Trading Assistant ensures accurate and timely reporting of Trading Position and Estimated PnL on a BAU basis for Ore business, including checking and reviewing of month end impact due to PnL actualization and make efficient the current position and PnL reporting processes through better organization and/or streamlining of the related processes.

Key Accountabilities

• Assist traders in execution of offshore derivatives (SGX, CME, international DCE, LME) and FX hedges, manage fee negotiation and volume placement with broker panel, manage relationships and fee negotiation with exchanges

• Assist traders in trade booking and amendments to ensure timely and accurate capture of all physical and derivatives trades in CTRM

• Running the daily processes to ensure accurate and timely reporting of the trading position and estimated PNL to Trading team and other key stakeholders on a BAU basis (including daily position and PNL reconciliation with Trading team and Trade Product Control, and integration of new products / new indices / new pricing mechanisms to the BAU process)

• Add commercial value by creating visibility on market structure and market positioning

• Continuous improvement of related processes around trade booking, position and PNL reconciliation processes through system and process enhancements, including putting in place operational controls while ensuring business growth is not hampered. Cross training within Trading Support team to support other product lines is also expected to ensure adequate support is provided when team members are on leave

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience
• Good understanding of Position consolidation and PNL processes for physical commodities and Derivatives
• Must have ability to quickly understand the end-to-end PNL process for physical commodity trading
• Must possess good understanding of commodity futures contracts (e.g. SGX, SHFE, DCE) and a basic understanding of freight
• Have the ability to translate complex business requirements into detailed process steps/system requirements for daily BAU activities
• Must also be able to build up a strong rapport with the commercial teams and other functions (e.g. finance, risk, etc.) to ensure that the commercial team is well supported via more efficient processes and better operational controls.

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelor degree
• Experience as a trading assistant or in a risk function for physical commodity trading preferred
• Knowledge of options risk and trading experience in options preferred
• Some experience in OTC trading preferred but not required
• Having good understanding of the business model and drivers of PNL for physical commodity trading is preferred
• Familiarity with physical trading commodity systems (e.g. ITAS) would be ideal
• Strong interpersonal skills
• Entrepreneur mindset to challenge status quo
• Programming skills or relevant IT skillsets to automate current processes and program in different languages (e.g. VBA, R, Python, SQL) Skills
